Artificial Intelligence Policy

TJCSS recognizes that artificial intelligence tools may assist researchers and publishers. Their use must remain transparent, responsible, lawful, and consistent with academic integrity.

Artificial Intelligence Cannot Be an Author

An artificial intelligence tool cannot be listed as an author because it cannot:

  • Approve the final manuscript
  • Accept responsibility
  • Declare conflicts of interest
  • Hold copyright
  • Respond to allegations
  • Guarantee accuracy or originality

Human authors remain fully responsible for all submitted content.

Permitted Assistance

Authors may use artificial intelligence tools for limited assistance, such as:

  • Spelling and grammar correction
  • Improving language clarity
  • Organizing non confidential notes
  • Translation support
  • Formatting assistance
  • Coding or statistical assistance, where verified

Authors must carefully review and verify all output.

Disclosure Requirements

Authors must disclose significant use of artificial intelligence in:

  • Writing or rewriting substantive text
  • Literature analysis
  • Research design
  • Data processing
  • Data analysis
  • Coding
  • Translation affecting interpretation
  • Creation or alteration of images
  • Preparation of tables or figures
  • Generation of research materials

The disclosure should identify:

  • Name and version of the tool, where known
  • Purpose for which it was used
  • Part of the manuscript affected
  • Method used to verify the output

Basic spelling and grammar checking normally does not require disclosure.

Prohibited Uses

Authors must not use artificial intelligence to:

  • Fabricate data
  • Invent participants or interviews
  • Generate false findings
  • Create fabricated references
  • Manipulate images deceptively
  • Conceal plagiarism
  • Misrepresent authorship
  • Produce misleading analysis
  • Process confidential data without appropriate authorization
  • Replace necessary human ethical or academic judgment

References and Factual Accuracy

Authors must verify every reference, quotation, fact, calculation, and interpretation generated or suggested by an artificial intelligence tool.

The authors are responsible for fabricated, incomplete, or inaccurate information even when it originated from a tool.

Confidentiality

Authors must not enter confidential participant information, unpublished third party data, personal information, or restricted material into an artificial intelligence system without appropriate permission and safeguards.

Use by Reviewers and Editors

Editors and reviewers must not upload manuscripts, review reports, author information, or unpublished data to unauthorized artificial intelligence systems.

If an approved tool is used to assist editorial work, human editorial judgment must remain decisive, and confidentiality must be protected.

Artificial intelligence must not make the final decision on acceptance or rejection.

Images and Research Data

Artificial intelligence generated or altered images must be disclosed.

Artificial intelligence must not be used to alter research images or data in a way that changes their meaning or creates a misleading impression.

Undisclosed or Improper Use

Undisclosed or unethical use may result in:

  • Request for clarification
  • Manuscript revision
  • Rejection
  • Correction
  • Expression of concern
  • Retraction
  • Notification to the relevant institution
